Robinson Crothers

Financial Advisor and Managing Partner at Great South Bay Advisors

Robinson Crothers is a Financial Advisor and Managing Partner at Great South Bay Advisors, a family-run wealth management firm based in Holbrook, New York. He brings over 10 years of experience working alongside his father and focuses on designing and managing portfolios that reflect each client’s goals and risk profile. He earned a degree in Finance from the Mario Gabelli School of Business at Roger Williams University, where he also competed on the university’s wrestling team.

Early Life and Education

Robinson was born and raised in Patchogue, New York, on Long Island. His father had already built a career in financial advisory services, and he had spent nearly a decade working closely with him. Through this experience, he gained practical knowledge in portfolio management, client service, and long-term Financial Planning.

Robinson attended the Mario Gabelli School of Business at Roger Williams University and completed his degree in Finance. During college, he was also a member of the university’s wrestling team, balancing academics with athletics.

Early Career and Family Business

After graduating, he worked as a Consultant in the Institutional Investment space. In this role, he collaborated with Pensions, Endowments, and Family Offices to construct portfolios that included Private Equity, Hedge Funds, and other Alternative Investments. He later joined his father in the family-run advisory firm, beginning nearly 10 years of direct involvement in managing client portfolios and relationships.

The firm reflects more than 50 years of combined family experience. It transitioned from its earlier identity as American Portfolios and was rebranded as Great South Bay Advisors in January 2025 under their leadership.

Areas of Expertise

Robinson's professional work centers on financial planning, retirement income strategies, and long-term investment management. As a fiduciary, he follows a client-first standard and guides without conflicts of interest or proprietary product influence.

A primary focus of his approach is managing return sequence risk, particularly for retirees who depend on stable income. By allocating assets across equities and fixed-income investments, he works to reduce the impact of market downturns and limit portfolio depletion during periods of volatility.

Within equities, he carefully evaluates dividend-paying stocks and higher-growth companies. His strategy blends value and growth considerations, emphasizing risk-adjusted returns and capital preservation during market declines.

Services and Solutions

The firm offers Financial Planning and Retirement Income strategies designed to support long-term objectives and reliable income throughout retirement. It also applies Tax-Efficient Strategies, including Roth conversions and tax-loss harvesting, to strengthen portfolio outcomes.

Estate and Legacy Planning services are structured to help clients transfer assets efficiently while minimizing estate taxes and legal challenges. In addition, the firm guides clients in debt management, healthcare, and long-term care planning, charitable giving, and wealth accumulation.

Investment Strategy and Market Perspective

Robinson's investment outlook is grounded in research and long-term economic trends. He seeks to deliver strong real returns across full market cycles while aligning strategies with each client’s risk tolerance and financial goals.

He incorporates fixed income and municipal bonds into taxable accounts. He has adjusted equity allocations toward value stocks and dividend-paying companies, aiming to improve risk-adjusted performance in the current environment.

Robinson monitors themes such as industrial innovation, semiconductor equipment, energy production and storage, defense spending, and the expansion of the global middle class. He expects dividend growth to play a larger role in total returns over the next decade. He also sees meaningful opportunity in International Markets, particularly within developed economies in Europe and the Pacific region.

The Role of Technology and Research

Robinson uses the Pershing platform, a BNY Mellon company and the world’s largest custodian and clearing firm, to access research, technology, and operational resources.

Pershing supports $58 trillion in assets under custody and administration and services 8 million investor accounts, providing scale and stability for the firm’s clients.

Through partnerships with organizations such as the country’s second-largest independent financial services provider, he gains access to specialized investment products, competitive pricing, and structured risk management practices.

Community Involvement and Philanthropy

Robinson is active in his local community and serves on the Patchogue Arts Council board, supporting programs that promote local artists and cultural engagement. He also leads tours for Patchogue’s MoCA Lights event, encouraging public participation in the arts.

In addition, he volunteers as a wrestling coach at Patchogue-Medford High School, supporting youth development through athletics.

Personal Interests and Hobbies

Robinson is an active reader and book collector with interests in history, art, and economics. He continues his involvement in the arts through service on the board of the Patchogue Arts Council.

He is engaged to his longtime partner and plans to marry her on October 10th, 2026. Robinson Crothers remains dedicated to his clients, his community, and his family.
